My Grandma was an art teacher at the Boys and Girls Club for most of my childhood, so I grew up doing everything and anything art related. I feel in love with hands on projects like jewelry and clay. My Grandma’s pure talent also encouraged me to continue, the artwork she creates blows me away every time I see it. Truly I have always wanted to accomplish that feeling in others just like she does in me. My early exposure to art inspired me to continue throughout school. In the future I don't really plan on taking many art classes in college, maybe a few, but I know I will continue to use the skills I learned through art in the rest of my life. The patience I learned and attention to detail truly has shaped me as a student and helped me along the way. I plan on continuing my own art projects and making sure that if I have children that they understand the valve and effect art can have on people.
When I chose a new project I usually look up pictures on Google and see what pops up and decide if I am inspired by anything. Than I decide what materials would fit that picture the best. If I think I will be doing a lot of blending I use watercolor, acrylic paints, or pastels. If I feel I have enough time I prefer to use clay or some other 3 D materials. My favorite tool would have to be a pottery wheel, It's so much fun! I love the variety it offers but also perfection it creates. The themes of my artwork are usually something that I care about or have experienced in my life. I love creating work of animals or people that inspire me.
A lot of my current work is influenced by my life experiences. Some of my favorite artwork I developed an interest in, in middle school, because we did a project that was with black and white ink and I have done many spin offs of it like my purple and red swirl along with my black and white ink drawing. Some of my artwork is inspired by my volunteer abroad trip to Peru, like my a lot of my photography and my ceiling tile. The little girl that I painted for my ceiling tile is one of the people I became very close with during my time in Peru. She changed my life and I wanted to capture her innocence in some way and emphasize how much she changed me, by leaving her behind in the school which has also shaped me to who I am today.
